Alhambra, Paris, France. This broadcast is the first part of a 1960 concert performed by the Max Roach Quintet at the Alhambra in Paris. American jazz drummer and composer Max Roach was a pioneer of bebop, and one of the most influential percussionists of all time. In 1954, Roach formed his first quintet with trumpeter Clifford Brown, producing a number of influential recordings. Here, Roach is joined by the brothers Tommy and Stanley Turrentine (trumpet and tenor saxophone respectively), Julian Priester (trombone), and Bob Boswell (double bass), performing âAs long as you're livingâ.
