In this updated episode of Behind the Music that originally aired in 2010, DMX shares his controversial road to becoming the raw and unrefined king of rap. His career began on the streets of Yonkers where he battle-rapped local hustlers as a teenager. Surrounded by poverty and abuse, he often had to steal to eat. But with grit and confidence in his talent, his music prevailed. DMX became one of the most popular rappers of his time. He broke through the mainstream with hits like Party Up, What's My Name, and The Ruff Ryders Anthem. But despite his success, DMX struggled to heal from the scars of his past and addiction to hard drugs. In one of the last in-depth interviews of his life, DMX reflected on his faith, resolving the trauma of his past, and prioritizing fatherhood. DMX sadly passed away at age 50, in April of 2021.
