Salle Wagram, Paris, France. American jazz tenor saxophonist Sonny Rollins (*1930) is regarded as one of jazz history's greatest musicians. Rollins already recorded with his peers, including Miles Davis and Bud Powell, in the early 1950s. In this broadcast, Rollins teaches a group of young musicians, consisting of Charles Schneider (tenor saxophone), Marc Thomas (alto saxophone), Yves Torchinsky (double bass), and StĂŠphane Gremaud (drums). This footage is interspersed with an interview with the jazz legend, in which he discusses how he discovered jazz, and the expressive freedom he found in the genre. These recordings were made at Salle Wagram in Paris on October 20, 1980.
